THE RIGA FRONT.
FURIOUS BATTLE NEAR RIGA. CONSIDERABLE ENEMY LOSS. Petrograd. Jan. 2S. There is a furious battle :iear Riga, along a 50 kilometre front (30 miles). The rivers and ground are frozen, and the temperature is 20 degrees below zero. The Germans, with important icserves and plenty of artillery, made obstinate 'attempts to break the Russian l'nes, but failed, and there was considerable enemy loss. RUSSIANS RECORD SUCCESSES, London, Jan. 28. A wireless Russian official message says: We repulsed two attacks west of Riga, and the Germans fled in disorder. We attacked on both sides of the Klmpohing-Yakaben road, and, after a' stubborn tight, broke through the fortified positions on a front of three vei'its. • THE GERMAN VIEW. London, Jan. 28. A German ollicial report states: Russian attacks bioke down with heavy losses on both banks of the Aa Hirer Russian pressure compelled us to move nearer the east bank of the Go'.Jen Bystritza. REINFORCEMENTS ON RIGA FRONT, Received 2S, 5.5 p.m. Rome, January 20. Advices from Petrograd report the arrival of great reinforcements on the Riga front. Hindenburg is personallyconducting aaffirs.,
