A Russian official report states: —Between the Tirul swamp and the river Aa we took the offensive and dislodged the enemy, taking some prisoners, but we withdrew under German pressure. Wo advanced a milo in the direction of Kalncem, but fell baevlc before counterattacks. General Jvanhkevitch, who led tlm first line, was wounded, but remained at his post. FIGHTING THE WOLVES. BOTH SIDES JOIN. Tetrograd, Januarv '2O. Packs of hungry wolves infect t'lie Polesie front, soldiers beating thjtm off with mnehino-gnns. In some cases tihe Germans joined the Russians in fighting the wolves. Recently the 'Russians and Germans suspended a 'hot encounter, organised a joint hunt, drove off the wolves and afterwards returned to the trenches. ■There was no treachery.
