THE BOWLING CARNIVAL.

SECOND DAY'S PLAY; SOME SURPRISES The Taranaki Bowling Tournament was continued yesterday om the three town greens under most favorable conditions. The weather was perfect, whilst the greens played well and some splendid 'heads were in evidence. The play yesterday was keenly watched by a number of interested spectators, and today, with the element of uncertainty .is to the section winners in the majority of tho sections, play should attract a good attendance to the various greens. Yesterday's play produced come surprises, the greatest of >.ll being experienced in the fourth round of Section B, when Foy (Hawera), who had gone tliroug'h successfully on the first day, lost to F Roobuc!: (Okato), the Coast skip thus securing ; liU 'first win. At Fitzroy in the morning Mason (iPihnma.) wont down very easily to Abbott (Fitzroy), who, however- fell a victim to Sampson (Waitara) in the sixth mind. Every game was keenly contested, and burnt lieads were frequent. In one game between TI. Smart (?\ T cw Plymouth) and JlcGorrery (Wavcrlev), there were no less than nine burnt heads. In the last round at Fitzroy there were numerous burnb heads, play not finishing on this green until about 7.30 p.m. IMie match between Curtcis (Eltham) and Bickerton (Stratford) proved very clos?, no less than three extra heads being played before finality I was readied.

The outcome of the day's was to create several changes in the order of leadership, and almost- every section liears an open appearance. In Section A. Wvllie is leading from Sole by one win, and when they meet this morning an interesting eontest should ensue. In Section B there .ire three tie&, Foy. A. K. Smart, and Jenkinson eacli having one loss. The two latter will meet after lundli. In Section C, Johnson and McMillan each had two losses yesterday, whilst Best I (West End) won his three matches, And is now in the lead in his section, with only one match to plav. In Section D, Branch was beaten by Hodgson (another surprise), aiyl is now a game behind H. Smart, so fat unbeaten. Branch and Smart have yet to meet each other in tho eight!!) round. In .Seotion E, both Mason and Abbott were defeated, rind with Spurdle (Inglnwood) and Fd. Newell (West End) close up, the position is interesting. As on the first day, t'H were again all that could be desired. Results:—
