FLOODS AT TOKOMARU.
TWO LIVES LOST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Jan. 22 A heavy rainstorm at Tokomaru Bay caused floods. . A yeung man named Lewis, 21, a carpenter, went out at 5 o'clock to look afa the flood; the bank gave way and he waidrowned.
A child named Hanlon, 18 months was also drowned. Its. father had handed the child to its mother whilst they were escaping from their housr. The mother tripped and fell and the child was washed away.
A number of small bridges were washed away and stock drowned. It is reported that ten inches of rain ftl! inland.
