AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
MR. HUGHES AND THE LABOR PARTY. A-ustralian-N.Z. Cable Association Melbourne, Jan. 20. The discussion sof the Liberal Party disclosed that the majority were opposed to a coalition, while favoring a National Government. The resolution adopted and- endorsed by the followers of Mr Hughes expressed the opinion that the position 1 demanded the formation of a War Government, embracing all parties. It asked Mr. Hughes to convene a conference of the leader--.
After Mr. Hughes has communicated with Mr. Tudor, the latter promised tn give an answer on Monday, after a meeting of the party.
The impression in some political circles is that the official Labor Party will persist in the determination not in any way to be connected with Mr. Hughes.
The Liberal Party further resolved on the desirability of direct representation at the Imperial Conference by a re-iH-csent-ative from Australia. The Labor Party will De unable to meet until Friday to consider the National Government proposals. No developments are expected meanwhile. A CURIOUS REFORM. Bobart, Jan. 20.
