BESSIE BARRISCALE'S "REAT EMOTIONAL SUCCESS, "THE PAYMENT."

The change of programme' at the Empire last night contains an exceptionally fine and varied assortment of interesting films, all of which are well worth seeing. The premier position is occupied by the Triangle Fine Arts "The Payment," featuring Bessie ■'Barriscale, the celebrated emotional actress, and William Desmond n t.lie- leading roles. The story deals with the ambitions of a country girl who aspires to fame and fortune. -Iftor many hardships she decises to make compromises with the established mori.l laws. Aided by the help of a generous but unscrupulous man, she succeeds, but at a price. Later, meeting a man she loves, her distorted ideas of social ,'ife come back o their true focus, and she is brought "ace to face with the awfulneas of her nayment and the greatest problem of her life. Others pictures of note are 'Max Joins the Colors," Max tender's latest sketch, the "Pathr Gazette" and "Motor Polo.'* The same programme will be repeated to-night and again tomorrow. On Thursday and Friday the attraction will be a Keystone . omedy, 'Hearts and Sparks," and on Saturday at both matinee and night the fnmous 'Stingaree" will again appear in anjthcr of his tlirililng adventures
