TARANAKI HIDE, CALFSKIN AND TALLOW- SALE AIR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, January 0, at my sale of the above I catalogued 21 casks and 42 tins of tallow, 480 bides and 100 calfskins, and the usual sundries. Tlie Government has stopped Mie sale of sheepskins, with a view to commandeering nil supplies, consequently none ware offered. Hides are,' soon to be commandeered also, andf'this affected their sale, and in sympathy with other sales declined y,d to Id per lb. C'alfsl ins generr'ily weiv of a poor quality and declined id to 2d. Tallow sold at late rates for jrood quality, other sorts a shade easier. The New Zealand Loan ami Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Stratford branch) report as follow?: — On Thursday, January 4, we hold our first sale of the year at our Knhuratalii. yards. We had a small yarding of both sheep and cattle, owing, no doubt, to the saV coming so close after the holidays. The following are some of the prices realised: Yearling heifers 101s to ll>s fid, weaner steers 78s, yearling steers 1235, 15-months steers 140s Od, empty cows 1775. yearling bulls 80s, f.m. to G-tooth ewes' 31s 3d, 2-tooth wethers 34s Gd. Our next- sale will be held on the •25th inst.
We held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards on Tuesday, i'tli inst. Thd yarding was small, with a good demand. I'riccs: Empty cows 1»1; to IGSs, cows in calf 10?s, bulls up to 2305.
