COMMANDEERED WOOL.
FIRST VALUATION AT WAITARA SATISFACTORY PRICES, The machinery of the Government scheme for the purchase of wool for the Imperial authorities was set in /notion at Waitara yesterday. The valuers appointed for this district, Messrs F. P. Clark and H. Hill (formerly Bradford buyers), who are acting foi tiie Government, put through about 1800 bales, and a plane* l through the valuing stores after the completion of their work certainly ga>e the impression that those responsible fothe valuation had not spared any pains in the direction of making a most thorough and carcfuj examination or the wool submitted Mr. W. Scott, a \vel! known Wanganui buyer, wno jvar, present on behalf of the producers, did good service for his Clients. The prices fixed for the various lot? submitted by Mr. Newton King ana Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co., the authorised brokers for this district, may be regarded as satisfactory to the producers.

Nolan and Co report the following schedule as representative of range of prices placed on various lots of wool totalling 707 bales submitted through them to the Government wool valuers who visited "Waitara yesterday:—Half bred 18Jd, Down 172 d, 18d, fine oross* brcci 18d, medium 14Jd to 15Jd, coarse (brisht) 14:7 d, dingy (free medium) 14Jdj slightly eotted 14tl, 14M, slightly eotted dingy 13Jd, 14} d, slightly seedy 135 d, 14 Jd, hogget? bright mediuM staple 15Jd. ISJd, slightly loggy 14d, MJd, lambs, short staple 13Jd, 14d, medium lajd, crutchinga fld, lOid, first pieees 12Jd, second pieces IOJd, -locks and pieces BJd. bellies IOJd, bellies and pieces Od. We understand that next valuation will take place in about a fortnight's time.
