FROM THE FRONT.
CUE BASE HEROES, Mr. H. G. Richardson, of Cruti, has just received a letter from his son, Private G. M. Riehardsott. Ist. Wellington Infantry Brigade, N.Z E.F., France, dated Xovembei 22, 101 G. He says:— "W» are liaving very cold and' wet weather here at present. I can tell you it's very rough, which is putting it mildly. I see in the papers chaps writing home and telling their parents what a fine time they arc liaving, and the excellent way they are treated. -Take It from me—and lam not a pessimist—that it is all lies, and those that oerite such uttei rot are a loYig way from the firing line, living on the best, and we poor devils doing the real w.irk. I can tell you it makes a chap wild to think that the people of New Zealand are fed up with all that stuff by those cold-foot-od gentlemen who never have seen a shot "ired, and this is what I want to drive home to you. It ! 3 the 'featherbed soldter' that gets all the gifts you send out, and ive poor devils in the trenches don't as much as see them, let alone get any. When the boys come home you will hear more about it. Next time some fool writes and tells wliat a I t'.me he is having put him down as one ot the 'base heroes.'"
