WELLINGTON TOPICS.
PRICE OF WHEAT. (From Our Own Correspondent). Wellington,. January Id. The Board of Trade and the. Board of Agriculture were in conference to-day regarding the price of wheat, but no statement was made as to the result of their deliberation's. The two boards are to report to the Minister for Agriculture, and it is understood that they will make a definite recommendation for submission to Cabinet The question under discussion, of course, is the price to be paid the farmers for their wheat. The members of the Board of Trade are known to be of opinion that: an adequate supply of wheat during the next two or three seasons can be assured by a firm offer to pay the growers 4s 9d ov 5s per bushel, but the Board of Agriculture, which is representative of farming interests, may take a different view. The Minister, has stated that the report of the boards will be placed before Cabinet, and, if approved by the Minister, before another conference of fanners.
