General Sheppard's Indian troops attacked on the west flank, and drove .he enemy out of two elaborate lines of entrenchment. The enemy, consisting mostly of Askaris, encountered and cleverly ' lisposed of the Indian force. During the retreat there was bloody hand-to-hand fighting. The Asians thrice charged with the bayonet, showing excellent discipline and sound military qualities, but the Indians counter-charged, and drove the Askaris into the high rank grass.
