STRATFORD.

(Prom Our Own Correspondents). Tuesday, Jan. 9. We had an electrical storm between 4 and 5.30 o'clock this morning. A heavy gale was also raging. Later on the wind dropped, and, with daylight, heavy and continuous rain set in, and continued all day. The first of the stock sales for 1917 is being held to-dav. The weather is hardly favorable, but, despite this, the attendance is good, and prices are up to usyal rates. Pour members of the -Shcahan family, well known here, are now taking up the Empire's cause. Two have been at the front for some considerable time. The other pair left yesterday morning. Before leaving, J. B. S'heahan, who has been employed at the local telegraph office for several years, was presented by the staff with a wristlet watch. Mr. Brooks made the presentation. Mr. J. If. Shotter, who was injured through tripping whilst descending from a motor-ear last week, has recovered sufficiently to make a short visit from Midhirst to-day. The public are continually being reminded that they should be cautious, now the war is on. Good advice, too; and all Stratford will exercise, the right I rand of cautiousness if they make their purchases at C. E. James' jewellery Store. Good value goes with every line purchased.®
