Writing to his father in Wellington from the Convalescent Camp, Codford, PU. Harold Edwards gives an interesting story of a trip he and others tool: to London by motor-ear. "The motors," he says, "pulled up in front of the London Opera House, where there weic girl/ dressed in a blue eostum". with bold braid about their hats, collars, and sleeves; They were there for the purpose of opening all carriage doors. Crowds of people shook us by the hand, wishing us the best of luck wherever we might go. We were taken hv the arms and helped tip the stairs to the dross circle, ami taken to our seats, our overcoats being taken oil' for n« and lump; up. We had just made ourselves comfortable in our seats when the curtain v.'i'nt lip. On the stage wore the actors and actresses, quite ready to commence with,the first act, when a gentleman apptareS on the stage, and aa near f..i I cori remember, this is what liMiad to say:—'iff dear friends, in- 11 lOiort sentence or two I would like tc bring under Vi.i.T notice, although most of you no doubt are well aware of the iact, that here in this Opera House we lmvc the great pleasure of having a few of tin Xf\v Zealand heroes to witness this play, and I am sure we all will da the very best we can for them while tney are in t.h'c country. I will now ask for three 'hearty cheers for these heroes.' And they were three hearty cheers," says the vrter, who relates how three times during the performance they were rc•a!ed with tea and cakes.
