An Amsterdam cable announces that the betrothal will shortly take place of the Crown Prince of Bavaria to the Princess Victoria of Schleswig Holstein, one of the wealthiest of the Princesses of Germany. , Motions of condolence w-rc passed at yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki County Council to the relatives of the l.i to Mr. Mark Hopson and Mr. Edgar Me\ens, in connection with their recent bereavements. The death occurred very suddenly on Sunday at her residence on the Mountain road of the wife of Mr. E. Mumby. She complained of\ibeing ill during the evening, and collapsed at about 9.30. Mr. Mumby went for assistance, but on returning only a very few minutes later found that his wife had expired. Th« pause of death was internal hemorrhage.

A letter from the Veil. Archdeacon Stoeker received- by a friend in Intercargill contains some details of the circumstances under which Lieut. Val. Stoeker won the Military Cross,- as briefly reported in the cables" recently. It appears that Lieut."
