STRATFORD.

25th REINFORCEMENTS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) v Stratord, Jan. 8. All Stratford appeared to be present at the railway station to farewell the men leaving here to-day to join the ptli Reinforcements. Prior to entraining, the Kev. R. T. Tinsley addressed the men, making a very fine patriotic address, during which he expressed the belief that they Mould all prove worthy soldiers of the King, and return safe in health and sound in limb. Mr. C. D. Sole also added a few word- of commendation, and apologised for 1 atwenee of the Mayor, Mr. J. W. : ~a. Comforts were then handed to the departing soldiers. The names of the men leaving were:—infantry: L. XV. Aylward. 0. Jans, A. Marfeil, N. J. Prebble, W Lineliam, F. T). Sheahan, \V. J. Vine, A. J. Crombie, J. ,T. Kelleher, P. McCarthy. W. Tloss, J. B. Sheahan, h. 1). Lester, T. F. O'Neill, S. l'askell, A. W. Rawles, E. H. Taylor, Riekleben (New Plymouth), and •I. B. Crossan (Wanganui). Artillery: \\ T . 11. Prout. Army Service Corps: A. King. GENERAL. The value of building permits appticd for in tlie borough during the year 1010 amounted to £S6SO 10s. Trade at the Ladies' Patriotie Committee's Red Cross Mart and Tea Room? on Saturday resulted in raising £B. The secretary of the Stratford Dairy Company informs me that, despite the very dry weather, the milk returns are keeping up well. We appear to be in a rain belt, and although rivers are running low, there is no anxiety regarding the water supply. The borough workers are now engaged repairing Broadway at the southern end. The public are continually being reminded that they should be cautious, now the war is on. Good advice, too; ana all Stratford will exercise the right Lr.ind of cautiousness if they make their furchases at C. E. James' jewellery Slcre. Good value goes wit!', every line (:m chased.*
