CHE RECRUITING CAMPAIGN. Melbourne, Jan. f. The Director of Recruiting is considering the raising of the age limit to fifty, and will possibly adopt a district territorial system. The Premiers' Conference ha? resumed and discussed the repatriation of soldiers. It was decided to druit a composite scheme of land, settlement. Private advices from Pasir state that the, British Government has renewed until 1!!1S the leases of certain buildings and land occupied in France, the lease of which expired at the end of December. HANDLING OF WHEAT. Sydney, Jan. G., The State Wheat Office continues to receive reports of attempts to burn or otherwise damage wheat in stacks throughout the State. The Government is calling for tenders for the erection of a bulk-handling of wheat system with a terminal elevator, of three-million bushel capacity in Sydnay and of 80,000 bushel capacity in Newcastle. The country elevators will have a total capacity of 12,000,000. The estimated cost of the installation is £2,000,000.
