COMMANDEERED PRODUCE. CHEESE, 9%d. F. 0.8. WHEAT .PROPOSALS NOT COMPLETED. HIDES, PELTS, AND SKINS TO BE TAKEN OVER. By Tciegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, Minister for Agriculture, stated to-night that, on behalf of the imperial (iuvcnmient, the New Zealand Government had made cheese-producers an offer of !!%d. per lb. f.o.b. in the Dominion. At r conference to-day the producers agreed to accept the ofloij .subject to certain terms which had been cabled Home and a reply is expected this week. "The proposal,'' said the .Minister, "is to buy on shipment up to a certain point, at any rate, but details are still being considered/'

With regard to wheat, Mr. MacDoriald stated that he does not expect to have the whole of the proposals completed before the end of the week. "We should have been saved a lot of trouble," he said, "if people had'waited till our offer was made to the farmers, and it was seen how they .received it, instead of rushing at once into print and wasting a lot of ink and good white paper."

So far as the main flip is .concerned, the .Minister advised that everything is now going well in regard to wool. The valuers are all at work, but i we could do 'with more shipping spact. We are going to ,take over hides, pelts, and skins, and 1 am to meet the fellmongers to-morrow to discuss the question of sheepskins and pelts."

GOOD RECRUITING IN NELSON. Nelson, Last Night. The. Hon. Jas. Allen, Acting-Premier and Defence Minister, visited Nelson, to take part in the farewell to the quota of the 2-ttli Reinforcements, which were raised voluntarily. The men were addressed by the Hon. Jas. Allen, vho congratulated them on theii patriotism. There would, he said, be no need for en forcing the ballot anywhere if all districts did as Nelson and Auckland "iad done. The Minister delivered a recruiting speech at Hotueka last night. The •25th quota is also full, and the 26th are thirty men short.
