Professor Meinccke, the historian, writing to the Frankfurter Zeitung. admits that Germany intended military aggression, but the brilliantly begun campaign collapsed at the Manic, which wa= a strategical French success. Ife admits that the attacks at Ycrdun were a failure, and warns the small nations to consider the fate of Belgium. Serbia, and Roumania, and that they /ill imperil their lives if thev attempt to touch the deadly electric .v'ire of the Central Powers. The Times remarks that this is the most remarkable German article yet published, being the first free admission of the truth. THE DRESDEN FIRE. SHELLS AND CARTRIDGES EXPLODE.' Eceived Jan. 4, 12.15 a.m. London, Jan. Beflin states that the northern portion of Dresden continued afire for three days. 'Phe lire spread to the reserve stores. There were constant explosions of shells and cartridges, and a panic prevailed. .Several were killed. ACTIVITY IN GUN MAKING. London, Jan. 2. ■ Berlin despatches show that Germany under the universal labor service is turning out thousands of guns weekly. Skilled workmen lmve been withdrawn from the front and are working at Ki'upp's and elsewhere. The Germans estimate that it will be four months before there is a renewal of the full offensive on all fronts. They expect the first attack at Verdun The potato crop is disappointing, and | there will be privations despite supplies | from Roumania Food rations are strictly limited. Messages from Berlin state that there lis keen disappointment at the Allies' jreplv and German hopes are declining. ACTIVITY AT NAVAL ARSENALS. Received Jan. 3, 8.50 p.m. London, Jan. 3. The Daily Telegraph's Rome correspondent mentions the Swiss reports as to the abnormal activity at tin naval arsenals at 'Pola and Finnic, and as to many German officers having joined Austrian warships. i
