OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Business during Christmas and New Year was brisk, though possibly, on the average, not quite up to that of the previous year, but still exceptionally good. The quick facilities and the greater amount ot opportunities given fn country people to "take a run into ??e\v Plymouth" means that a greater amount of country cash goes into the towns for Christmas goods. Hampers and parcels for the Christmas trade are made a specialty by the business people of Xew Plymouth and Hawera, but are neglected by tilie eountry tradesmen. The seaside has been exceptionally well patronised by the visitors. The weather during the holidays has been delightfully fine. The Taranaki Boy Scouts are holding their summer camp at Opunake Bay, where they have the full privileges of the Seaside Society's bathing sheds, etc. The Eltluun and Stratford boy? arrived on Wednesday. The Rev. Dent was in charge. The New Plymouth 'Scouts arrived on Saturday morning. There are about 03 boys under canvas, and all appear to be enjoying the camp life immensely. An exceptionally large congregation attended the combined Presbyterian and Methodist service in the Methodist Church on Sunday evening. The Rev. R. B. Gosnell was in charge, and offered up tilie prayers, including the "Intercession Prayer." The Rev. J. Russell delivered ari eloquent address. During the] service Nurse Te An sang a solo, "Come Unto Me,'' and, with the Rev. Papakura, rendered the duet, '"Love Divine.' Their singing was a special treat to listen to. The choir after the offertory J sang "Victory Promised." | The townspeople and the Boy Scouts are holding a picnic to-day (Wednesday).
