NO COLLAPSE YET.
CONDITIONS IN AUSTRO-HUNGARY. London, Nov. 4. Mr. •CuHin, Hie American journalist, who recently arrived in London from Germany, writes that Austria and Hungary are weary of the war and suffering severely, but are not near collapse. The Empire is badly provisioned and lacks the German organisation. The people are not so docile as the Germans, and bitterly resent the innumerable taxes and the war regulations. The newspapers are rigorously censored, and not permitted to publish any important war or domestic news. Still llindenburg is a popular and well-ad-vertised idol. The recent llindenburg interview was published in the Neuc Freic J'rcsse in order to soothe the jumpy Austrian nerves. The terrible Austrian losses are causing widespread depression. The Hungarian losses are probably the greater, nevertheless the Hungarians unitedly support Germany, firmly believing that llindenburg ivill win the war. Hungarian bravery has surprised the Germans, who hitherto regarded this people as musical barbarians. Hungary treatf. the British prisoners well, rarely interning them at all.
