ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) EHham, Dee. 2S. The Patriotic Committee has been very fortunate in securing the services of the Wanganui Garrison Band to give a sacred concert in the Town Ilall on [Sunday evening. The programme will not commence until 8.15, so that churchgoers will have ample time to hear the ! whole programme. The band members are, not strangers to the town, having appeared here last. December, when their visit resulted in very pleasant recollections. The band is visiting Taranaki under engagement by the Stratford Racing Club, and during the short stay has included Eltham in the programme. The entertainment is being held in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, and with anything approaching seasonable weather the Town Ilall should be crowded with a sympathetic audience.

The Foresters' Hall was crowded last night to tender a farewell to Private I'l. Carlisle, of the 22nd Reinforcements. Prior to enlistment he was employed by the Eltham Dairy Company. Mr. H. 11. Blake occupied the chair, and kept things moving with a swing. The guest of the evening was presented with a wristlet watch, the chairman making the presentation. The departing soldier suitably acknowledged the . gift and kind wishes. Several songs were contributed during the evening.

The Presbyterian Church choir assembled at the residence of Mr. A. Beesley last evening, the occasion being a farewell to Private 11. Hornblow. The Rev. E. C'ulliford presided, and, on behalf of the choir presented their guest with a safety razor. In a neat little speech the minister wished Private Hornblow every success and a safe return. Songs, duets, etc., were contributed during the evening by Mesdames Neilson, J. E. Carter, Miss Neilson, and Messrs S. Robinson. A. Beesley. A. Cooper, and J. E. Carter. Cheers for departing soldiers (4) and for those who had returned (2) were also given. Refreshments, kindly supplied by the ladies, were much appreciated.'
