"CHIMMIE FADDEX" SCREENED. TO JROW.DED HOUSE LAST NIGHT, A story of smiles and tears aptly describes the splendid Lasky feature, "Chimmie Fadden," that was screened for the first time last night to a crowded house. The story is pictured on New York Bowery, where Fadden lives with his mother and younger brother. The latter is inclined to be somewhat wild. Fadden detects a bully stealing a newspaper from a boy, and promptly administers a grand licking, eventually landing in the police station. A wealthy settlement-worker, realising the circumstances, secures his release, and later employs him as footman. The condition of an inebriated butler necessitates the footman / acting as substitute, and a good pdrtion of comedy is included through his efforts to serve dinner. This is supplemented by the theft of the family Jlver-ware, the principals being none other than Fadden's brother and his master's valet. The complications bring Chimmie into the circle of suspicions, and he is eventually arrested while returning the stolen articles, after locating them through his brother. The adjustment arrives with his brother's confession, and then the victim of the theft decides not to prosecute. The finale'shows Chimmie restored with the lasting friendship of the family, and the love of the French maid, who played opposite throughout, thus adding the essential afihosphere of romance to offset the comedy. The same programme will be screened again tonight and to-morrow night.
