ENEMY KEPT IN CHECK. BULGARS THROWN INTO A LAKE. leceived Dec. 23, 5 p.m. Petrograd, Dec. 22. A Russian communique states: On the Roumanian front enemy attempts at an ofiensiw were repulsed. On the Dobrudja detachments were withdrawn northwards after stubbornly resisting superior forces along the whole front. A regiment daringV attacked the advancing Bulgars, who were thrown into a lake and mostly drowned.
ROUMANIAN OIL WELLS. DESTROYED BY BRITISH MISSION. London, Dec 22. The British military mission satisfactorily reports the destruction, under Roumanian Government orders, of the oil wells and refineries in tho chief oil centres. FUTILE GERMAN ATTACKS. Petrograd, Dec. 22 Recent German attacks in Roumania have been ineffective. Russo-Rounmn ian advanced parties are commencing attacks. The flank of the army is solidly based on the Dorna Watra region. On the left bank of the Danube and in the Dobrudja the troops have retired to previously fortified positions in conformity with the general retreat.
