EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO GROCERY STORES. By Telegraph.—l'res# Association. Auckland, Dec. "N A fire occurred early this mornin,, in the shop of Smectons, Lt(J.. Quccii Street, (loins damage to the extent of several thousand pounds. A large <;tock of groceries was more or less damaged. The fire, which originated in the jleetric lift well, burned through four floors, portion of each of which collapsed. Although the fire was confined to one section of the building, the whole stock, which was valued at about £28,001), was damaged b.v water or smoke.. Insurantes are not known, but it is ••nderstood the stock was covered in ten companies. Wellington, Dec. -2+.
