At the wool sales 30.402 bales were catalogued, and to date 30,030 have been sold. There was a fair selection, Merinos and crossbreds further hardening on opening rates. All sorts were practically from 10 to 15 per cent, abavo November rates. Fancy prices were paid for greasy Merino combings, which were scarce and urgently needed. Slips were generally threepence above November prices. The list for the fourth ot January has closed. Friday's supplies met with keen competition, prices being firm at last week's rates. BURNSIDE. In order to give relief to consignees the Board of Trade have deemed to make an advance to them against documents at the rate of 8-Jd per lb with regard to commandeered cheese ex Arawa. pending settlement of price. Notice to this effect has been posted on the board at the Home Foreign Produce Exchange. Hemp—The market is firm and prices continue to'advance. It is reported thatowing to freight difficulty New Zealand offerings are very small, and that buyers are cautious, in anticipation of accumulated slocks coming forward later. The market is speculative. The output of hemp at Manila for the week ending last Saturday was 28,000 bales. Wheat—The market is firm, and there is a genera! and active demand, but Government offerings are small.
