ANTI-CONSCRIPTION.
DEPUTATION GETS NO SATISFACTION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Dec. 21. The deputation that waited upon the Hon. W. H. Herries to-day does not represent the whole result of the anticonscription conference. The delegates have exchanged views freely, and are in a yisition to discuss various points further with the bodies that sent them to Wellington. But your correspondent gathered in conversation with delegates that no decisions of a sensational character had been reached, and that the conference generally had shown little inclination to follow the lead of extremists. It was possible that the discussion would be carried further when the 'Minister's reply had been further digested. The tone of the deputation was.quite gocd-humoured, but the Minister gave no hope at all that the Government would consent to summon Parliament for the consideration of the Military Service Act, or would, take a ref?r»ndiim on the subject.
