TARANAKI WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.
, WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND The following interim statement, intended to illustrate the work (lone by the. Taranaki Provincial War Relief Association in the first irtx months of its operations, is authorised by the executive's finance committee. The figures are approximate. The amount of the Wounded- Soldiers' Fund, for the Taranaki provincial district, as at November 30, lOlfi, wis £42,003, all raised by the Association's local branches, with the exception of £320 subscribed from other sources. Of the tctal. amount, £18,760 has been paid oyer by the branches under the'authorities issued by the Government For that purpose; £7720 is held by a local committee, which has not yet obtained its authority to transfer to this Association, and the balance of approximately £15,000 is held by local branches, in either cash or investments. In arriving at the amount ,of tin. Fund, the figures stated represent the value of the respective branches' funds, ac at the dates of authority to transfer to this Association, plus subscriptions, to November 3(1, 1010; but interest accruing in respect of this period has not been included. The funds in the hands of the Association are invested:— £BOOO at call, £3OOO or. bank deposit for two years, and £SOOO on five years' War Loan certificates; those in the hands of the local branches are practically all on deposit at call. Relief has been granted as follows: Grants by local branch in 33 specific cases and promiscuous grants by way of temporary relief. £248; grants by Association in nine specific cases £00; rejliet by way of loan in five specific cases, £insb; contributions to the New Zealand Soldiers' Comforts Fund, per High Commissioner and New Zealand Wat Contingents Association, £030: total relief disbursements, £2348. The total specific local eases relieved is 47. Owing to the irregularity ir. dates of authority to transfer funds, the increase can only be arrived at approximately) taking the approximate amount of the Firiiel a-, at July 31, I Old, as a basis, the continued efforts of the locai branches up to November 30, 1010, resulted in an increase of approximately £sfio!>. In conclusion it is perhaps advisable to draw attention to the fact that although the Fund is popularly known as the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, the objects of the Association also include the assistance of , dependents of sick and wounded or fallen soldiers.
