FIRST CHANGE TO-NIGHT "THE PHANTOM.'' . One -of the finest detective dramas screened in New Plymouth for some lime past is ''The Phantom Crook," which commences its initial screening 'at Everybody's to-night. The picture is | bristling brimful of unexpected, situations. It opens at a point where ' Phantom" Farreil, the gentleman | criminal, is visited by an inspector of | police, and advised to leave New York. Farreil agrees to do so, and later turns up at the bouse party given by James J*ereton, a railway magnate, in honor oi his daughter Aviee. ' He introduces himself and his confederate, Clrahbi, as detectives from Central Ollice, detailed io guard the priceless Beretun necklace '■which Avice is to wear. Farreil mixes freely with the guests, being particularly favored by the daughter of the host. Late at night the 'detective'' tikes the necklace From the safe, and replaces it with a duplicate Afte' many conip'.ications Farreil is about to b? arrested, but lie produces evidence to show he is a secret service man, and states that he - did not come to guard the jewels, but' to arrest a "doctor" for blackmailing. Farreil reminds Bercton that he has not looked in the safe for the necklace, but on doing so lie finds it there, thus establishing the ''dctec(ire,' innocence. The closing scenes of the picture sluiw Farreil and Ovabbi taking the "doctor" to Manhattan, but a final surprising turn is given events, when the prisoner is freed, and Farreil admits he is not a secret service man , n all.
