FUNCTION AT "AOTEA." ■' , flic function held at "Aotea," Maagfb Sole Bros.' grounds, yesterday afterotroil and Inst, evening, on behalf of the of Lhe local branch of the Bed Crojljj was highly successful. The weatbra was delightful, and in the afterooda about 200 ladies and a few gentl<fl made their way to tho beautlffll grounds. A largo marquee was erected in the main paddock, and afternoon teat and ice cream;, were served. Mr«f Ccprge's orchestra of seven instrument talists discoursed a .programme of def liglitful music in the bush, and werej listened to by an appreciative audiencej The visitors bnjoyed the walk throUM Ihe bush, and were particularly iotfrf estcd in the Te Henui River, 1 ''Aotea' 1 looked like a fairlylantf U the. evening, when the bush and were illuminated with electric ancU Wizard lights and Chinese lanterns! Business at the sweet stalls waj again brisk. A feature of the day's pToopedi ings was the sale of rafTle tickets, A large number was disposed of. Musiciau A. o,[ McDonald contributed a euphonium solo, "There's a Lund," and did full juitict) to its beautiful phrasing. Miss IPeart contributed two songs with charming effect, Midi .Afr. Corrigan was equally successful with his two songs. The total taking* for the day, including the raffle, amoilOT to about £UO, while the expenses are practically nil, a member of tho Red Cross 'Society having undertaken to defray the cost of the electrical stallation.
The grounds will again be -threTO open Ibis evening, when the CitiMUs' Bund wili render another excellent pro* gramme. Messrs.
