TEACHERS' INSTITUTE.
A GENERAL MEETING. . J A' general meeting of the Twanaki branch of the .N.Z. Educational Institute. was held at. Stratford on Saturday. The.-.prasidtnt (M. A. V. Sims) presided over a ,fair attendance of members. Apologies were tendered for the absence of Messrs. Tyrer, Thomas aijd Sitfraek., Six new" were ejected*- bringing the total up"to *23!!, witli* "five honorary members."
A letter was received from Mr. E. Just, treasurer of the N.Z.E.1., outlining the financial position of the institute, and, 011 the. motion of Mr. Mail, seconded by Mr. Curteis, iB was decided that an Increase in the annual subscription was necessary. The meeting decided against an entrance fee for new members and arrears for not joining when eligible.
The order paper for the conference to be held in Wellington in January was then considered, and after a few remits had been discussed Mr. G. W. Mitchell proposed that the delegates have a fret hand. This was seconded by Mr. Mntheson.
Mr W. C. Bicheno proposed that the discussion be continued; seconded by Mr. J, W. Mail, and carried. The delegates were accordingly given the views of the meeting of the whole order paper. The Dominion promotion scheme, submitted by tho executive of the N.Z. Educational Institute, was considered and approved. The four representatives to the conference were voted £1 each to help to pay their hotel expenses. It was decided to enter a strong protest against the recent regulation limiting the number of proficiency certificates
