DISTRICT NEWS.
- RAKOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) I What might have been a serious accident happened at the factory the other day, when Mr. Wright, senr., of Ngariki Road, came off with a very bad shaking, his horse having backed into the old cement whey tank, the cart being smashed up. The new weighing machine (Hutchinson's patent scales) has arrived at the factory, and the expert from Christchurch is expected any day to install it. i Mr. W. R. Wright is at present visiting Trentham and Wellington. Mrs. Dawson, senr., and Miss M. Huglison have been staying in the Featlierston district. Miss Stewart is now in Kahotu, after being in the Xelson district for over two years.
We hope soon to hear of Masters,! Claude Hopping and Leslie Hodsoivs recovery, and return from the hospital, where they liave'been for .some time. Another of our boys has made/ the supreme sacrifice in the person of Private Fred. Billing. He was working in the blacksmith's shop when lie enlisted. Great sympathy is felt in the district for the relatives, as he was very much liked. He was the youngest son of Mr. T. Billing, late of Ngariki Road, now of New "Plymouth, who has two other sons in the firing line, one having 'been j wounded. I
The ladies are still sewing for patriotic purposes, and different people hear from the front that the parcels are arriving safely, one particular case being a parcel of butter, sent by Mrs. W. 'R. Wright, which was greatly appreciated. A plain and fancy dress ball is to be held on Friday, as a final to the patriotic socials.
