A ror respondent complains tliat a lady from the countrty wilio visited a Taranaki town for the purpose of disposing of tickets for a nill'le in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund had a rather unenviable experience, being told by the leading men of that place in 110 uncertain munner that she had 110 business to .be selling' tickets in that locality. An explanation that she had authority issued by -the Minister of Internal Affairs to raffle the article, it being expressly stipulated that tickets must not be sold outside the provincial district of Taranaki, and an offer to allow the permit to be viewed, were treated with scant courtesy. The kdv, disheartened by this treatment, sold very few tickets in that town. Our correspondent, a resident of the town in question, felt hurt over the treatment meted out to the lady, who devotes considerable time to patriotic work, and who, he considers, was entitled to courteous treatment, even had &he been encroaching on another district (which she was not), as the money wag being devoted to the one common object.
