Mr. S. C McCarthy, S.M., of Napier arrived in New Plymouth yesterday to relieve Mr. A Crooke, S.M., who has obtained a fortnight's leave. Mr. R, Cock, who lias been visitirt" Australia, returned to New Plymouth yesterday.
A London cable states that Mr. Massey has returned from his visit to Ireland.
The death is reported from London of Mr. T. J. West, the pioneer of the "movies" business in Australasia. The Rev. F. W. Young, vicar of Devonnort, arrived in New Plymouth yesterday. He will take charge of St. Mary's Parish until the return of the vicar, the Rev. A. H. Colvile.
Mr. .J. S. Connett, chairman of the Taranaki County Council and president of the Taranaki A. and V. Society, k confined to his homo owing to tin accident.
Mr George Horn, a director of the faranaki Oil Lands Acquisition and Development Co, Ltd,, visited New Plymouth yesterday in connection with th> annual meeting of the company. Mr Horn leaves for B.lenheim this morning.
The itevs. A. B. Chappell and C. H. Olds, with Messrs W. A. Collis and V Griffiths, who have been attending the Methodist Synod at Wanganui sincu Monday, returned to New Plymouth last evening.
Major James Cameron, in a letter to relatives in New Plymouth, states that his cousin, Archibald Cumberland MeJDonell, is a general with the Canadian forces, and that the latter has a brother who is also n general in the army. The parents of these officers were born at Auchaluarich Farm, Glengarry, Invemesßi shire. Several members of the family migrated to Australia and New Zealand and others to Canada. The only surviving member of ,he old family is Mrs Alex. Cameron (nee I. McDonell), of Wanganui, the mother of Major James Cameron. General Archibald Cumberland McDonell is first cousin of Mrs. Herbert Cave, Kent Koad, New Plymouth, and he was named after her father, the late Mr. Cumberland McDonell, who was wellknown in the Wanganui and Rangitikei districts.
