At tie Presbyterian General Assembly tlii--. evening a report on the training institute for women workers was given in by Professor Hewitson. Of the past students several are deaconesses in various congregations in Now Zealand, and some are at work in foreign fields. The Institute, is.under the superintendence of Mrs. Blackie.
In connection with the Foreign Mission report, Miss Wright, of the Canton Village Mission, addressed the Assembly on tier work in that field during the past six years, end on the need.; of the mission for the future. Tlu '.Rev. W. Mawson, of the same mission, who had been for twelve years in ti.at 3e!u, also spoke of the growth of the work in that time. Both wen raceiwd with great enthusiasm by the Assembly, <.nd their speeches produced a dee]) impression. Mr. Mawson dealt i.i an interesting manner with the political situation in the Chinese Empire. Professor and Mrs. Hewitson rcpart-1 ed on the. visit which they paid last year to the Canton Village l , Mission and other parts of China. On the motion of the Hon. ,T. <4. W. Aitkcn, a resolution of thank:, to them for their visit was passed.' It was decided that such a -visit should bo paid 1 every five j ears.
A period of intercession in connection with the war was held. During the evening greetings were received f'om the Mayor of Wellington.
