NEED FOR NEW SCHOOLS.
j WESTOWN'S REQUIREMENTS. I The chairman of the Westown School Committee (Mr. J. Garcia) wrote to the Education Board on Wednesday and again urged that steps be taken to establish a school at Wcstown to meet the growing needs of the suburb. He forwarded particulars in support of the application, stating that seven families, representing 20 children, 'had settled in Westown since the previous application. There were 22 other children who would be of school age after the holidays, and ii children who would be of school age before very long. The Rev. A. B. Chappell said lie con siderod this was an urgent case. Wcstown was a growing suburb, and there was not the slightest possibility of its population decreasing. Mr. S. G. Smith strongly supported, the application, and moved—''That the Department be again urged to make a grant for the establishment of tbe| school at Westown, and that the addi-' tional information supplied by the residents be forwarded to the Department." The nVQtion was seconded by Mr. * C'happetl and carried. SCHOOL FOR NORMANB'i. A strong appeal for a new school at Normanby was made by Mr. E. Dixon, who said the present building was enj tirely unsuitable, tho infants' department having been condemned as insani- !' tary. Mr. Dixon described the school as a disgrace to the Board and a disgrace to the whole country. It was decided to draw plans and to .. call tenders for the work, and to ask i. the Government for financial assistance.
