MR. KELLAND AND THE ANTICHRIST.
To the Editor. Sir, —When Mr. Kelland set out to identify Germany as the beast and the Kaiser the anli-Christ, he evidently overlooked" the fact that the first ten verses of Rev. 13 were fulfilled by pagan Rome and its successor. This is the power that waged war against the saints of God, and, overcoming them, they died. Isolated and scattered in the Dark Ages in mysterious Babylon for 12(i() years, it monopolised and created a famine in wheat and oil, or truth, light, and iherty. the Word of the. Lord, that no man should buy or sell, only those that had the mark or the number of his name, I have seen it interpreted seniewherc thus: That no man should barter his religion.'' He should have no iving as a religious man. No preacher should he paid unless lit i? either doing the work of the old spotted beast or conforming to its usages under the Image that had been made, fu the eleventh verse, John beheld another beast coming up oi-.t of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb, etc. Now, 1 submit that this two-homed beast, or the beast that ''was, and is not. and yet is, ; is identical with Germany. The eighth form of Rome, it came up lanib-bk-with its pretensions to Christianity, etc.. but afterwards exercised all the powers and authority of the first beast with the seven heads and ten horns. At all events, it has proved itself to be a very worthy successor to that persecuting power. All students of prophecy are agreed that its number is COB in the Hebrews, the Greek, and the Latin.
