THOSE CHIMES.
Sir,—l unilerHaiid it lias Leon definitely decided to stop those, post oll'ie-; chimes at night. Why? Because half a doyei: casual visitors to New Plymouth statu their intentions of never visiting our beautiful town again while the chimes chime. New Plymouth should worry! Is it absolutely essential to our town that these grumblers should return a;ain in five or six years time? Again, arc they breaking any by-law and making themseh'.'s liable to conic under tin attentions of Jlr. Ben, Tippin« if they stay at any hotel other than the White Hart? There, is plenty of excellent accommodation. quite as central as the White Hart, yet snflicienth- far away from the P.O. for light sleepers not to luive their slumbers disturbed. But Apparently the councillors prefer to cater for the White Hart in preference to Die large number of townspeople to whom the chimes are a boom. Come to earth, New Plymouth, and don't let yourself be bluffed by one liot,el keeper and a few problematical future visitors.—l am, eti\, FOR THE CHIMES.
