WORKS COMMITTEE. A liifpt incr nf the Works louimittefi of the Xo>.v Plymouth Borough Council T/a-i held last evening. Tho Mayor (Vlr.l C. 11. Ktirgmu) presided, and others present wore: Crs. L. M. Monteatll, J. W. Harden. F. E. Wilson, A. H. Jolinv stone, \V. A. Collis, \V. V, Short, F. ,T. Mill, S. .1. Smith, E, Griffiths, and J. T, Mmnix. The borough engineer reported that the railing on the footbridge over t'iia Ilantoki River, Pendarves Street, hod been broken oil by some persons' un< known. The bridge was not in goorj repair. Tho hand-rail had been re< placed. It was decided to tha matter of replacing the bridge next ym to the Estimates Committee. The matter of proceeding with th« work of grubbing gorse from tile Puketl Pn Kewre «nd the Old Waterworks Reserves was referred back to a subcommittee for further consideration. The <iue?t ; rn rf metalling Wallace Place and Pr.rretc Street was discussed, and it was decided to authorise the engineer to fnrnHt an estimate of tha cost of the work. An application wr.s mado by tha borough engineer (Mr. W. H. Cook) for instruct if :is to complete Paynter's Lane, omitting the excavation in front of ill'. Nolan's property. The work, ha said, v.-uuld consist of "24% chains oi pathway, gravelling and kerbing, ami cove:in<; the new formation with broken .'tone. The estimated cost was I'.'lSl) 10s. 1; was stated that the estimate was rot complete, and the matter was referred back to the engineer to coiuplet# iiic estimate.
