BY AUCKLAND DRIVERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, November 1% A mass meeting of the Drivers* Union to-day resolved that the following notice be sent to the Minister for Labor:—-"It is with deepest regret we liuve now to aaviso you that seven days from this date, the drivets of this district will declare a strike. The time for such act will operate from the expiration of the old award. Wo fully; realise the seiiousness of taking this action, but we have a duty to perform,, not only to ourselves, but to our wives and children, whom wo consider are entitled to better maintenance and to ter home life than we are now able to give them', owing to the very low rate of wage we receive. Further, we con-; sider we would be lacking the lc»s# part of manhood if we submitted to, the terms and conditions laid down in: the award, which places the standard of drivers forty per cent, lower than that of any other trade or culling," Delei gates are to proceed to Wellington ton morrow, and other centres are being inj vited to take similar action. W Wellington, Last Night. ' Ar. employer told a pressman to-day tli.it he sympathised with the men, but; employers were not asking any more for, their work than tliey did ten years ago,' wnile the cost of feed and other charge* now was much higher. llr.
