(From Our Own Correspondent.)' November 20. The Tennis Club held their annual meeting last week. Tf.e total membership is 25, and of these no less than 18 are at the front. It looks strange arithmetic in the face of this to state that there were nine present, but this is accounted for by new members after the tally of membership had been made. It is a remarkably high percentage of soldiers, and to the men wlio have laid aside the tennis racquet and taJcen on sterner work. It is a sorrowful duty to record that two of their number, G. W. Taylor and R. Jackson, have fallen on the field of battle. Mr, R. Haydn, who has been local champion for many years, and president this year, whilst "Jim" Campbell, who is farming all day, and attends directors' meetings of the factory frequently, is a vicepresident. Probably he may squeeze time to allow a visit to the courts occasionally. Cyril Wilson has resigned the secretaryship to C. M. Young, but retains a seat on the committee. A credit balance of £6 10s shows the club is sound. The garden party at Ngaere on Thursday attracted a very good attendance of Elthamites. The weather was fine, and the outing very enjoyable.. The Eltham Cadets had a 'big muster here at the parade last week. A total of over fifty speaks well for enthusiasm, and indicates that Staff Sergeantilajojj Bodle is a popular officer,
