. BURSTING OF A DAM. By Telegraph.—l'ress Association. Whangarei, Last >sght. News has been received at Whaugarei that a fresh dam burst yjsterdav at ilerekino. Tv.-o Maoris working in the vicinity were caught by the sudden onflow and washed away, one being killed, the other being rescued with difficulty, owing to his being seriously injured.
A BARMAN FIXED, Danncvirke, Last Night. Froje Soraisen, barman and porter at Andrews' .Hotel, was lined £.> and 1 its costs for a breach of the War Regulations in taking payment for two drinks from half-a-crown tendered by one of two men who ordered drinks. A charge against the licensee for permitting the commission of the offence was dismissed.
