ANTI-SHOUTING.

PPOTEST AGAINST REGULATIONS. 6y Veiegraph—Press Association Wellington, Nov. 14. A deputation from the Wellington Hotel Workers' Union interviewed Mr Hculman to-day relative to the antishoutirg regulation, and represented that the convicting of a person twice on th 1 ? same offence was against the canons of British law and justice. It was suggested that a bar attendant ha informed of an offence at the time it was alleged to be committed, so as to give the worker an opportunity of obtaining evidence that might be available. The deputation also asked that the regulations b*! considerably modified so that injustices suffered bv workers could be removed.

T he Minister, replying, said that legislation of tlmt kind must be drastic, otherwise it would- be void. At a time like this people had no right to treat, regulations and law with contempt. He would give attention to the representa tion as tq double punishment; magistrates must be satisfied that there had been intentional evasions of the law by bar attendants He would look into the matters referred to by the deputation and if satisfied that injustice was done it would be his duty to remove it. The poj'ce report showed a distinct improvement in sobriety and order since the regulations came into force.
