The West End Bowling Club opens its season to-morrow (Thursday) afternoon, when the usual match, President v. Vice-president, commencing at 2 o'clock, will be played. The Salvation Army sale of work, which had to be postponed last week on account of the wet weather, will be held to-day in the Salvation Army Hall. All ladies arc cordially invited to inspect the goods on sale.

It costs £2O to break the antishouting laws at Rotorua, £5 at Tauranga, and £1 10s (without costs) at Wanganui. These (says the Masterton Ago) are recent magisterial decisions. Fines of £:i and £2 were imposed on offenders at New Plymouth.

A successful euchre party and dance was held in the Kawaroo. Bungalow last evening. Over thirty couples were present. At the Eltham Court on Monday, a young iran named Stevens, charg ed' with drunkennes and resisting the police, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Mr. T. C. Stanners, J.P.. was on the Bench. Defendant was taken through to New Plymouth th° same day.

Something in the nature of a record run per motor was inaile last Sunday by Dr. Mackin, of .Wellington. He left Wellington on Sunday' morning, at about 4 o'clock, intending to proceed to the New Plymouth Mountain House. Having a good run, he reached the hostel at 8 p.m., in time for tea. Dr. Maekin was accompanied bv Mrs. Mackin, another friend, and chaffeur, who are staying at the hostel foT a few days. A final reminder is given of the Boys' High School Sports, which take place to-morrow commencing at 11 a.m. Everything points to a -successful meeting, and, provided weather is favorable, everyone present is promised a good day's sport. The recently completed boarding establishment will bo open to the public. Afternoon tea may be obtained on the school grounds for Gd., the proceeds to be devoted to the Soldiers' Comforts Fund. A oordial invitation is extended to all friend-; of the school. It will be seen in our ' advertising' columns that the New (Plymouth fiifls' High School, which is now carried on in a newly-erected concrete building, ia a healthy locality, and with ample grounds, is now available for pupils, and parents desirous of securing for their daughters the best higher education that can be given should pay the school a visit. There is every prospect, now that a suitable boarding-house has been provided within a few minutes' walk of the school, that the Girls' High School will rapidly attain a popularity equal to that of the Boys' High School. Miss Barr, M.A., the principal, has a highly trained and qualified staff, and that lady will also be in charge of the boarding-house, the situation of which is certainly one of the best and most salubrious in the Dominion.
