STRATFORD.
Trom o.:r Resident Eejort:;-), [Msssages or instructions left care of H. J. Hopkins, Bookseller End Stationer. Brcad-.vay, will receive prcr.pt attention.] STRATFORD A. & P. ASSOCIATION. Saturday, Novcnibci 11. The president, secretary and executive committee of tlic Stratford Agricultural and Pastoral Association are making every effort to push forward details in connection with the holding of the seventh annual two-days' show of the Association. The energy and enthusiasm displayed , ire eommendahle, and go a long way ' 5o ensure success, so vital to the welfare of the Association. Although I young in years, the guiding authorities are old in expedience, and are daily eon- ' ccntrating their efforts to make the ' meeting on the 21) th and 30th inst. as ' successful as those of the past This is a hig order to fill, hut the commit- ' tee have 'been assured of support by ' the farmers in and around the, district, whilst the journey to Mannwatu by the \ and secretary enabled them to • secure entries of stock, etc., from many ] well-known exhibitors there. Outside ' competition is welcomed, as by this means farmers and others attending the ' Stratford Show will be enabled to com- • pare their own stock with that ruling [ in favor in other provinces. Although - entries do not close until the 23rd :nst., ' the catalogue in preparation already ] contains the names of a largo number ' of intending competitors. The best of ' those horses and cattle in the competi- ' tion will again be brought before the ' judge's eye for the honor of winning ' the championship ribbons. The grounds, J considering the abominable weather J lately prevailing, are in good condition, ' and the results of the '"'working-bee" on ' the grounds, pens, etc., should make them ' '"'apple-pie" order by the time the show ' opens. Farmers are experiencing diffi- [ culty in securing, help, but despite this ■ they can be relied on to do their share I to make the 1!)10 show up to, if not ' ahead of its predecessors. Getting stock to and from the ground by railway has been seen to by the executive, so thflt '• intending exhibitors need have no hesi- ' tation in sending their valuable stock ] from a distance. The weather by then will probably be in a more generous ' mood, and with sunshine backing ip 1 capable management, President Jackson, Secretary Stanley and the commit- • tee should have no doubts as to results —financially and otherwise. ' STRATFORD'S CENSUS Many people have been waiting patiently to see how the cenuis for the Stratford Borough "panned out." 'With so many young men leaving the district it was; quite ixpccted that Ihe returns would show a decrease. Tiio expected has happened, but the 10--r. ir. population has not been very great. M>. Stanton, post master, supplies me with the fol lowing details: Census, lillli, males 1301. females 1412. total 2713. Th> estimated population of (he Borough for Ifll3 was 27113, so we have lost a half-century in three years. Against this is the fact that we have sent to the war a great many of oui men. |
