II Corriere della Sera states that the Pope's relations with the Cent] al Powers are strained, owing to the Pope refusing the Emperor Franz Josef'f demand for the deposition of Monsignor Endriui, the Irridentist Bishop of Trent. The Pope is showering favors- on France to- the c.vclusion of Austro-Gorman candidates, and this has made a profound impression on Catholics, who jnteroret this as a change in the Pope's policy. The Messagero estimates the Austrian losses on the Carso at nearly 60 per cent, of the effectives. The battle revealed that the Austrian no longer have a limitless quantity of munitions. Prisoners state that many batteries ceased fire owing to the lack of shells. The increasing activity on all fronts: involves an expenditure on munitions and guns at a far greater'ratt than Germany and Austria are capable of producing, while Bulgaria and Tuikey are producing practically nothing.
