RENNET POSITION.
CO-OPERATIVE COMPANY MEETS. ] POOR RESPONSE BY FARMERS. < Ealinerstan N., November 2. { T The statutory general meeting of the ' New Zealand Co-operative Rennet Company was held at the showgrounds to- « day. Mr. H. Foreyth (Eltham), chair- *" man of directors, presided. ; The statutory report stated:—"The total number of -share* allotted to date is 14,347, all of which are payable in cash to the full nominal value of twenty • shillings. The amount of cash received by the company in respect to the above shares is £1487 lis. The following is an abstract of receipts and payments of the company on capital account: Receipts: On account shares, £MS7 Us. Expenditure: Preliminary expenses, £76 9s 7d, made up of cables, printing, travelling expenses, stamps, office exp-nses, registration, printing, etc. There are no contracts to be submitted to the meeting, but the company have ourchased 3425 veils, for which credit lias been givon to the extent of £144 12s. and for this amount the company ij liable. The company have also purchased aOOlbs ] of pepsin, estimated to cost abnit £475, but no payment has yet been made; 3330 li veils have been shipped to London to be v manufactured into rennet." r< The chairman congratulated the factories on having th*ir own Co-operative ri Rennet Company. The threatened short- & age of rennet had presented a golden » opportunity for the establishment of the 'i industry of rennet-making in New Zea- ' land, and of placing the factories independent of foreign countries. Step; had S been taken to instruct people in iWie matter of the saving of veils, and the S company 'had secured advice f.-om England to the effect that the beut method of wing yells was thai by mfliiting • and drying. So far BSO3 veils had been received from factories, and some fac- S tories were still holding veils. It had ( been stated in the statutory report that 3330 veils had been consigned to London, and since then 5100 had'been sent, and 8 ' there were 400 on hand. Considering ». this was their first season, the project was going well. He advocated' (dntat- - ing the farmers up to having the most "j suitable veils, and of treating the veils ■* by the best method. Every assistance had been given by the Agricultural Do- ■« partmewt. Various offers had been re- $ ceived from English and other firms will- L ing to enter in various'ways into the S> rennet business in New Zealand. How- ei ever, the directors had decided to sou- (J sign the veils for the present season, and he thought the returns for the season had justified the action. The mat- m tor of erecting a factory in New Zealand n would not be gone on with till other in- ' formation came to hand. Mr. W. Fisher (Carterton) expressed great disappointment at only 8000 veils being saved. It indicated that all esti- , mates that had been mode were too , high. [< It walg suggested that the farmers should be circularised emphasising the P importance of saving veils. A The chairman said it was too late to do mucli more in that way for this year, but for the following season they " should get earnestly to work in about !
