INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, Nov. 3. Ideal weather prevailed for the opening of the tennis and croquet season on Thursday. The courts, which have recently been top-dressed, were in very good order, and the croquet la.vn is in far better order than last year. Visitors were more numerous than usual, and about a dozen players from Tariki put in an appearance, which considerably added to the enjoyment from a playing point of view. The courts were fully occupied until late in the evening. Although practically the first tennis of the season, some very interestin"; games were witnessed. The croquet corrmittee decided on a progressive tournament, Mrs. Wagstaff winning the fir»t prize, and Mrs. C. O. Roberts second The season promises to be most successful, and the committee are deserving of congratulation on the splendid opcni'ig.

The dog fiend is still hard at work. l\o local drovers have lost very valuable dogs, while in one oavj a loss of three has been experienced, and werl; had to be refused on account of this loss. It is to be hoped the culprit will he traced, snd made to pay the penalty. I understand suspicions h.i.»\> beer: aroused, and sooner or later lie may be traced.

At the S.M. Court to-day, Mr C'rooke presiding, the following case= wove dealt witli:—lfcMahon, charged with driving at night without lights, was fined 10s and coats 7s. The following were fined ya and 7s costs each for allowing horses to wander ir. the borough: R. Davis. C. A. Cramer, E. Julian, H. W. Horner, W. Lawrence, R. F-awcett, unl 11. Brown. IT. A. lloldaway, for tethering a horse, was fined 10s and costs 7s. A charge of allowing straying horses against Le I Paul was adjourned to Deie.n'vr 1. ' At the sitting of the S.M. Court today, Mr. Billing, on behalf of the Bar, wished Mr. Thomson, who is leaving for 1 the front, a safe return. Mr. C'rooke, S.M., congratulated Mr. Thomson en the step hj"! had taken, and hoped to have the privilege of welcoming him on his (safe return!
