KAWAROA PARK.

IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY'S REPORT. The progress of the improvement scheme which is being carried out by the Kawaroa Park Foreshore Improvement Society is dealt with in the following report, to be presented at the fourth annual meeting of the society to-morrow evening:— The year has been a record one in every respect, and it is to the credit of the society that the park now ranks as one of the beauty spots of New Plymouth. The growing popularity is apparent by the increased returns from the various sources of revenue, the number of picnic parties that daily during the summer months availed themselves of its facilities and shelter, and by citizens and others who, in increasing numbers, frequent the reserve for pleasure and recreative purposes. Tn order to cope with the growing demand, the society has enlarged the bungalow in the grounds. The additional space provided will for a time meet the requirements for the increasing patronage at our social evenings, "afternoon teas and gala days. The' building additions have been erected in concrete and match the former structure, thus giving the citizens an asset free from the ravages of time and fire. In the early part of the year a detached copperhouse was erected, with every convenience for a rapid service of hot water to picnic parties. The annual picnic and fete was held on Easter Monday and was a huge success. The profit for the day exceeded £l5O. We again acknowledge the great assistance given on this day by the various schools of the district, notably Waihi, Boys' High School, Central, West End and Tikornngi. Throughout the sum mer .various organisations have boon freely given the use of the grounds for patriotic and other purposes, and each have expressed admiration of the park for the respective functions. Under the management of the society various entertainments and an Art Union hiivc been held for the benefit of the Patriotic Funds. The beautifying of the grounds las been steadily pushed on. Extension to the lawns has been made and the whole kept in good order. A concrete retaining wall has been erected at the rear of the bungalow. The reclaimed area, when grassed, will be a decided acquisition. The entrance roa'd to the park has been kerbed. It is hoped the society will have assistance to make this road (Tisch Avenue) worthy of the name bestowed ■•'-•'n it. Atteut.-n has been given to the native and other trees, and extra planting has been done. Several members of the society have answered their country's call and are now fighting in France and other war zones. Owing to the pressure of business, Mr. A. E. Sykes was compelled to resign the position of president. The vacancy was filled by the election of Mr. V. H. Beal. The post of secretary was twice rendered vacant. On Mr. E. D. Good resigning, Mr. G. Salt was elected. Each resigned owing to being transferred in their respective businesses to other centres of the Dominion. The balance-sheet will disclose a liability due to our building additions, but with the increased earning power and the park growing in favor, the finances must be deemed satisfactory.. With the same spirit for the future prevailing, and which has united the members in the past, the park will steadily become more and more a priceless asset to the city and inhabitants. Thanks are due to ail who, by cash donations and other means, have assisted in the progress made. The society is indebted to the press for its ever-ready assistance in the efforts to beautify the sea-front of the town. . For the Ladies' Committee the citizens will ever be under a debt of grati-i tude. They have freely and loyally given of their labor in tlie interests of the town. The help thus given is, without question, the foundation of the success which has been attained. THE BALANCE-SHEET.
