ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

• A SERGEANT CRUSHED By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, November 1. Just before midnight an accident occurred at the Lower Hutt railway station, by which Sergeant W. R. M'Viear, C Company, 10th Reinforcements, lost his life. The last troop train bound for Trentluim was entering the station at reduced speed, preparatory to stopping, when M'Viear attempted to board one of the carriages. He missed his grip and fell between the carriages and the platform. The driver Applied the brakes promptly, but when M'Viear was located ho was' found to be terribly mangled abount the legs and head. Death was almost instantaneous. Deceased is thought to be a married man.
