The Admiralty announces, that naval officers employed ashore or abroad may henceforth wear khaki instead of blue and white When the senior officer orders. , The Times, in a leader, say?•—Admiral Henderson writes us that the public are beginning to recognise that the Admiralty communications have for some time past seemed to lack candour, wherewith we concur. Geiman activities are not confined to spasmodic appcarancesr of destroyers, and submarinings have again reached dimensions whereon the Admiralty are far too silent. It is futile to disguise that they are considerably making havoc among our shipping. They are larger, swifter, more numerous, and more powerful than they were, and we should be glad to learn how the Admiralty's eounte' -organisation has similarly progressed. EFFECT OF EARLY CLOSING. London, Oct. 20. Owing to the early closing of public houses, convictions for drunkenness are 45,257 for tlie year, compared with 99,735 in 1914. PROHIBITED EXPORTS TO HOLLAND London, Oct. 29. No further licenses will bo issued for the export of flax or linen yarn, thread or linen to manufacturers in Holland. MILITARY HONOURS TO NEXT-OF-KIN. Received Oct. 30, 3.5 p.m. London, Oct. 30. The authorities will publicly present military honours to the next-of-kin if then winners do not survive. The King personally bestows the Victoria Cross, the Grand Cross, and the Commander of the Bath, and of St. Michael and St. George.
